How to Surround Yourself with Love During the Holidays

December 11, 2023 By Crossroads Professional Counseling

Hi! Thanks for visiting! Click here to subscribe to our blog.

surround yourself with love

Everyone says the holidays are about spending time with family, friends, and loved ones. While this is true for the actual day of the holiday, the remainder of the time could tell a different story. As someone who lives an hour away from their family, I spend most of my time away from family.

Although I will see my family on Christmas and the surrounding time, I have spent most of my time away from family this December. Being away from family or friends during the holiday season can be hard.

I am the type of person who loves the holidays and everything that comes with it. I am used to decorating with family, doing Christmas activities with friends, and overall spending time with the people I love.

One way I have learned to deal with being away from family and friends is by surrounding myself with the things I love about the holidays. Continuing to do the traditions normally would do during this time reminds me why I love this season. Although I may be away from others, I still get to do the things I enjoy the most about the Christmas season.

So far, I have decorated my home, put up my tree and ornaments, baked holiday-themed desserts, and wrapped all my presents for others. Surrounding myself with the things I like to do during the holidays has helped me maintain my admiration and love for the Christmas season.

If you are alone this holiday season or aren’t able to be around family and friends, I encourage you to continue the traditions you love and activities that make you feel cheerful. Remember that it is okay to be on your own during this time, and you can still be filled with “Christmas spirit” on your own.

As we get closer to Christmas, I wish you a merry Christmas and happy holidays! I hope the holidays fill you with unforgettable joy and love!
