I did tell you. I told you when we were sitting at the kitchen counter. I was cooking, and you were scrolling on your phone.
I emptied the dishwasher five times this week.
I didn’t get mad when you spent $3,000 on a new gun.
I think I actually weigh less than I did in college.
Why bother?
No, I don’t understand why it is so hard to just do what you say you will do.
I wrote the new policy and sent it to the whole team.
We do reviews every year and always give raises.
No one has to work overtime….ever.
Why bother?
No, I don’t understand how you could not consider me.
I volunteered to help.
I showed up.
I gave my heart and soul.
Why bother?
If we only do what is right if others acknowledge it….
If we treat others as they treat us….
If we only give to be the benevolent benefactor….
We may as well not bother. You cannot ever count on the grateful reception.
If we give and do as God would have us give and do ….
We can look at ourselves in the mirror with eye contact.
We can live the life we were meant to live.
We can, on occasion, do good for good’s sake.
We can have purpose and lead.
But, most importantly….
We can please the One who counts.
